There was nothing more that Rhonwen loved than the holidays. It was so grand to be able to wake up to smell of apple pies and a feast on Christmas morning. It was the only time in which her family could. With her families income as low as it was, the holidays were the only times when they really overspent. In truth, it was as if nothing else mattered during this time of year. Even if it seemed like they didn't have enough for anything, her mother always seemed to come through and father always made sure there was something under the small pine tree.
Her siblings had already begun to pack, leaving her as always to be the last one to get ready. Of course, her delay had only been because she'd gone around to say good-bye to her friends. What few friends she had. It was difficult to keep friends when everyone considered you a Mud-blood lover. Not that she cared about that. She proud of what her family had done and understood that it was wrong to treat others different because of birth. In fact, this year she had managed to even punch one boy for calling her a traitor, which led to her getting punished and her house losing points. But to her, she thought it was worth it to get her point across.
Waving down the hall towards one of her classmates, the red haired girl giggled as she lightly jogged towards the Commons. Rhonwen was barely holding in her excitement in going home.
"Ding dong merrily on high! In heav'n the bells are ringing!Ding dong! verily the sky! Hmm hm hm hm"
Humming a tune as she skipped lightly by, the girl stopped when she noticed her location, giggling once more as she plopped down within one of the available chairs. As much as she wanted to leave, she didn't want to endure the task of packing either, even if it was only for a few weeks. It just seemed like she'd bring everything home, making her have to bring it all back. Her siblings had mcuh more control over their idea of what was needed in travel than she did. It was one of the reasons why her mother had did most of her packing for her when she had started.
"Ugh......but it's boring...I should just leave everything here! Mum will just give me some more things to have to bring back anyway...."
It was a internal dilemma. Or at least it was to her.

Fifth year gryffindor student Harriett Potter was waking up and making her bed. She showered like every morning and picked out her clothes. She decided to wear a very silly holiday sweater dress her mother had sent from home. It had a very cute snowman and snow-woman underneath a mistletoe which was held by a miscellaneous looking Nargle. She was singing a song called The Holly and the Ivy. It was a Christmas Carol.
"The holly and the ivy, When they are both full grown, Of all the trees that are in the""
The girl paused from putting on her long stripped stockings and put a hand on her head.
".. the... Oh, no, I forgot the words!" She stares into space, looking shocked for a moment before shrugging it off and smiling again, returning to her task. Harriett left her room and went towards the tower, where she continued to sing. There was no real purpose for going there, it was just something she felt like doing. "Oh, well, I'll just make them up. Of all the trees that are in the sky, The house elf sings along, O the cat chases the mouse, And the dog then follows suit, The Nargal comes along and steals things, Right from under their nose! Oh, hey there Rhonwen! What brings you to the tower this glorious day?"
Harriett had thrown her body over the back of the couch and her hands were on the cushions for support in order to hold her body up. Her face was turned towards Rhonwen. Her hair was very long and messy as usual, and you could see her buck teeth clearly with her mouth open in a cheesy grin.

Looking towards the 5th year student, Rhonwen giggled as she smiled back towards the teen as she turned her back to face her. Harriet Potter was probably one of the few people that she found herself close to. Not only had she made her stay her fun, but she managed to help her quite a bit with her studies, especially when her siblings couldn't. In a way, Rhonwen looked up to her, seeing her a role model of sorts. Of course, there were some things about the girl that she thought went to the extreme. Of course, that could be said about her as well.
"Hey Harriet!! Nothing much...just trying to avoid packing up. I can never figure out what to bring and what to leave. I mean, this is kinda my first time going back home from school, but everyone else seems to know exactly what their doing..."
Pushing herself upwards so that she was sitting on her knees upon the couch, the red haired girl looked towards her senior school mate with a calm expression.
"Do I leave my uniform? What about my pillow? Should I take my collection of rocks from the school yard? What about my wand? I guess that ones a dumb question, of course I bring my wand! But its like i have no clue!!"
Holding both her hand on each side of her face, the young girl shook her head from side to side as she closed her eyes.
"I'm going crazy!!!"

"Going crazy? That's no good! Maybe I can help!"
The green eyed girl flipped over the couch and sat down next to the red headed Weasley. She supported her right arm up as she placed a finger thoughtfully on her cheek and stared into space.
"Well, I don't think you'll be using your uniform at home, so why don't you just leave that? AND your parents are likely to have pillows at home, so you don't have to take yours! And you'll be coming back to school right after, so maybe bringing your collection of rocks isn't such a good idea. You do have clothes at home, don't you? If you do, you wont have to pack so much clothes! And it's not like you'll be gone for long. I think just some clothes will be enough. What do you think? Is that helpful?"
As she spoke, she made plenty of relative hand gestures and now she looked at the girl with inquisitive eyes as she waited for an answer, still with that silly smile on her face, as always.

As the older teenager gave off her list of suggestions, Rhonwen nodded her head and listened to every one. It was probably silly that she hadn't considered half of these on her own, but her mind had been running a mile a minute since that morning. With her excitement getting the better of her, it was a wonder that she had managed to put on any clothes at all. Of course, she was certain that someone would have reminded her before she'd even had left the door. But it was simply how Rhonwen was. Sometimes she just couldn't help herself to be silly.
But at the end of Harriet's comments, the girl smiled as she nodded once more to finalize her understanding.
"Absolutely!!! I can't believe it was so simple! Well..actually I can, but wow!!
Giggling as she placed her hands on her knees, the 1st year let out a sigh of relief as she now knew exactly what she'd do when she returned to her dorm. Of course, that would wait for now. After all, she was avoiding packing and now she had Harriet here to help with that.
"But anyway! Are you excited about the holidays!? I know I am! Very very excited! Just thinking about everything that I'm gonna do when I get home makes me so giddy!"
It almost seemed like she simply wished to hear the sound of her own voice at moments, barely allowing anyone really to say much when she went into a rant and just continued on without a moment's pause.
"I'm going ice skating and then Im going to help mum bake! Of course, then I have to clean, hate doing that. I'll probably also need to work on some homework. Did you get any homework!? Homework sucks! But Christmas rocks! Everything about it is so great! Plus the snow! Its so fluffy and white and cold and deep and a chance to catch some on your tongue is always great isn't it!? I know it is! There's nothing like it in the whole wide world!!"

"That's great! I love ice skating! And yes, snow is always fun to catch on your tongue, haha. The Christmas holidays are the best, don't you agree?"
Listening to the girl talk about the holidays and what she would do with her family when she returned home made her happy, and the girl's excitement was extremely infectious! She couldn't help but laugh and smile along! Then Rhonwen asked about what Harriett was doing. Harriett smiled, but with slight sadness in her eyes. Although her sacrifice was a good thing, she couldn't help but think about how she would miss her family so much.
"I am not going home for the holidays this year. I decided to stay, to look after everyone who is staying behind. There are more people staying in Hogwarts this year, and I decided to stay here to watch over them. I informed my parents about it and my Christmas presents will be brought here instead! But my little sister(brother?) is going home, so my parents wont be so lonely."

It was almost as if Rhonwen had seen something that was foreign to her. The thought of someone actually not being able to spend time with their family wasn't new, but still gave her somewhat of a chilling feeling. It was enough to make her upset. The holidays were a time when you could spend it together with the people you cared for. There was something that wasn't right when you couldn't do that. Even when you didn't have parents, you still went and met with the ones that cared about you.
So even with Harriet's noble sacrifice in mind, the red haired girl gasped as she held a sad expression on her face.
"That's...That's terrible! Harriet you can't not spend time with your family! They'll miss you way too much! There has to be a way to get you there for Christmas! We can...um...we can get you a train! No...too big and they don't run during the holidays I think. A...a boat! Or maybe I can get my dad to drive you home!"
Placing both her hands on the girl's shoulder, Rhonwen closed her eyes and shook her friend furiously as she shouted.
"You can't miss..Christmas!! Maybe we can do something so that everyone else doesn't miss it either!! That's it! Maybe we can do that!

Harriett became puzzled at Rhonwen's exclamations, and she was even more startled when she was grasped by the shoulders and shaken like a happy kid on Christmas shaking his first present trying to find out what it was. Her head went back and forth and she became a little dizzy. As she spoke, her voice betrayed her disorientation even though she was smiling big.
"Oh, they wont miss me all that much! In fact, I'm sure they're tired of me! They've only had to put up with me all my life! I'm sure it'll be a relief!"
She was joking, and perhaps Rhonwen wasn't in such a serious mood as to take her seriously on that. Or rather, she was PRETENDING to be joking, but she knew better. Harriett was starting to feel better and her voice was renewed with the confidence and cheerfulness it held before.
"Don't worry, Rhonwen! There will be plenty of people here to share Christmas with and celebrate! Actually, you even gave me an idea! I was thinking that we could go to the lake, and since it's frozen over, we could all ice skate over it! It would be fun for all those left behind. I'm sure they'll love it."

At first, Rhonwen wasn't sure why Harriet was so calm? The fact that she wasn't going to be home for Christmas didn't seem like a cheery one. In truth, it was down-right depressing. Had it been her in such a position, the red haired girl would have been crying in her room with three boxes of Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Jelly-beans,and would only eat the nasty ones. She'd scream and possibly even consider jumping out the window just to escape. A bit extreme, but that was how much she wanted to be at home for the holidays.
But as she listened to her friend, she began to see that what she was doing was more for others than herself. It wasn't really that she wanted to stay, but felt almost obligated to. It was enough to make her stop shaking her and blink as she tilted her head to the side. Though the confusion didn't seem to end as Harriet stated that she had given her an idea.
"Wait...I did? I don't remember saying anything special. Maybe I did...no...no I didn't...What did I say again?"
Placing her hands once more upon her lap, the red haired student smiled when she heard the idea of taking everyone to the lake to skate, much to how she planned to do so when she returned home. It was a brilliant and it would be fun.
"That's genius! You're so smart Harriet! I wouldn't have thought of that..wait...I did kinda...but you put it out there much better!"
Giggling as she held her hand close to her face, Rhonwen then sighed as she continued to speak.
"So then...what did you plan to do other than look after everyone? Are you gonna read a book? Maybe practice! Wait wait! I know! You're gonna fly on your broom!? No no..too cold! How about play ball!?"

"Haha, I'm no genius. I wouldn't have come up with it if you hadn't mentioned it yourself, actually."
Harriett thought about all of the things she would be doing. Not only would she be looking after the students staying behind and roaming the halls late at night, but she still had to occupy all of her free time with other things. She loved books, so of course she would read! She didn't have much patience for studying, but she would definitely take some time to do that, too. Harriett wasn't very good on a broomstick, and was extremely clumsy, practically a hazard to everyone around her when she was on one, so maybe practicing flying wasn't a bad idea. Practicing her spells was an obvious one. When she was done thinking, she smiled down at Rhonwen.
"You know, there's plenty of time for me to do all of those things."

Rhonwen just continued to smile as she heard that Harriet planned to do all those things, making her wish that she could see it. Of course, she figured that the girl would just tell her about it when she got back. That was what she planned to do when she came back. Talking was one of the things that the red head loved more than ice cream or candy. Even though her brothers believed that she did too much of it. Though they would be in a long line of others who thought the same.
It was just something that she couldn't help, especially when she was really excited about something. Her mother said it was due to her cheery nature. Rhonwen could actually believe that, since it was very much true.
"Well at least you have a fun break planned! Everyone will love it! Especially the ice skating! Though maybe building snowmen would be fun too, or snow ball fights! I always get caught in those with my brothers. Of course, they always give me a head start and I can get them when their not looking! Snowball fights are great! So is coco! Oh! You should make sure to have some too! I think their serving some in the great hall! It's so so good!"

Hot Coco in the Great Hall?? That sounded amazing! Harriett lit up and she placed her hands over Rhonwen's. Sometimes she forgot she was even fifteen with the way that she acted like a little kid all of the time. Her little sister(brother?) said it wasn't a bad thing, that it was a good thing that Harriett maintained a childlike spirit. Adults were boring anyway. Besides, it wasn't as if she was like that 24/7. She did become serious when it was a serious enough matter!
"Hot Coco in the Great Hall? That sounds amazing! Would you like to come with me to get some? It is still early, and I was headed there to eat anyway."

"Of course! To the hot coco we go!!"
With a smile, the girl pushed herself from her place upon the couch, spinning herself around so that she was looking towards Harriet with a grin. Another cup of the sweet liquid wouldn't kill her. If anything, it would help in the long journey home. Coco was one of the things that made the holidays great. Then again, Rhonwen could think of a million other things that made it great. It would be such a long list that she'd probably be at it in till the end of the school year. But there would be time for that kind of task later, there was coco that needed drinking.
"I hope they made cookies to go with it! Sugar would be great or maybe peanut butter! Oh oh! Maybe they made brownies or fudge cake!! Anything betters than fruit cake! Yuck! Who came up with fruit cake! Fruit cake is so sick! Sick sick sick! Anyway! what did you ask for this Christmas Harriet!?"
Placing her hand under her chin, the 1st year looked up towards the ceiling for a moment before speaking once again her rapid pace.
"I was hoping for a new dress! Or maybe even a bow for my pet squirrel! Though then again, Mum might just get me socks like last year. I love the long ones with the stripes along the sides! There so cute! There like stockings that you don't hang up!...Oh wait? That is what socks are..Hehe"

"Oh, cookies and cake would be delightful! Though too many sweets might make me sick... I have to be really careful!"
Harriett got up from the couch in an equally enthusiastic manner. She asked Harriett what she asked for CHristmas this year.
"Well, I never really ask for anything! We try to really think about what the person would like based on their mutual interests and personality! My family is weird like that, haha! There are some things I am hoping for, though."
She listened to the girl excitedly speak about all the things she asked for Christmas. It was a peculiar thing how Christmas had to do with some silly God Harriett didn't know much about, and yet people who didn't believe still celebrated it. It was still a fun Holiday! When Rhonwen mentioned how she wanted socks for Christmas, she gestured down to her dancing legs, which were clad in long stockings with horizontal stripes.
"You mean like these?"

"Yes!! Those are the ones!! Just like those! Heh heh! I really want those! Maybe I'll get them if I keep being really really good! That's what I've been this year....kinda...I did put a newt in one boy's soup three weeks ago. Of course, it was only because he called me a Blood Traitor...."
Feeling her eyes narrow at the mention of that title, Rhonwen let out a breath as she crossed her arms over her chest and pouted somewhat. The things people said about her family usually were ignored and later replied by her pulling some kind of joke upon them. It simply was better than her getting into a confrontation. But this title really managed to get under her skin. How could someone be a blood traitor by something being nice to others?
" Their just jerks! How can people treat other people like that? Its just so....UGH! I can't stand it! It makes me want to go out and shout about each one of their flaws so they know how it feels. Maybe mention how their spelling sucks! Or even that they have a large wart on their noses! Well...a lot of them don't, but there always a spell that can change that! I should really work on learning trick spells like that! Though I guess it would be wrong to do something like that! But thats just how mad they make me!!"
