It was certainly a point of drama that the Dark Arts were now being taught at Hogwarts. Of course, Jessica was very interested to be able to learn more about those arcane arts. She didn't understand why people had such a problem with it. Arguing was nothing more than pointless. At that, it was a bit of an annoyance really.
Hoping to get ahead in the upcoming curriculum, Jessica had made a journey to the library only to find that there were still absolutely no books there on the Dark Arts. Apparently those books would still be locked away in the restricted section, or at least were until this point. She'd have to talk to the professors about that later. How was she supposed to refine her skills?
Regardless, now that Jess realized that path was shut for her, she sat at the table with her head lazily limp and resting upon her crossed arms. She hadn't been this bored in a long time. Oh well. It was part of being stuck in school during winter break perhaps.

There were many things that Alex could be doing right now like studying for something or writing a paper on something, but he was casually walking down the stairs after taking a much needed nap. When he got to the bottom of the stairs, he saw that someone else was on the verge of falling asleep, so Alex figured that now was the best time to strike up a conversation as the person obviously had nothing better to do.
As he walked over to the table where the girl was sitting, Alex began to wonder exactly what he would talk about with this girl. It was possible that he could talk about a class for the day or maybe an upcoming school event, but he sort of dozed off in most of his classes and wasn’t aware of anything that was coming up. Guess that meant he was going to wing it with some random question that he came up with.
“So the Dark Arts class was very interesting ,” he asked as he sat down at the table. When in doubt of a topic starter, go with what is talked about by everyone at the school at the present time. It wasn’t like he was going to open with a question like ‘When is the next full moon’ because that would be weird.

Post by HYDRA BURKE on Dec 30, 2011 23:29:39 GMT -5
Hydra had already spent her day just like she had spent every other day at Hogwarts: attending classes and doing homework. She never had been much for social niceties, but it was easiest to study in the common room since she could stay there as long as she liked. Even though she had already finished five years here, she still didn't have many people that she talked to, not even in her own house. For a lot of purebloods at Hogwarts, such behavior was usually tied in with blood purity and status. For Hydra, however, it was simply because she was quite a shy individual with some pretty strong trust issues.
While there were a few others in the common room with her, she tried her best to keep her nose in her book rather than eavesdropping on conversations. However, she couldn't help but flinch when a boy mentioned the new Dark Arts class , and even went as far as to describe it as being interesting. To this day, Hydra focused her studies on defensive spells since she highly disliked fighting, but knew that she needed to be able to defend herself. So while the thought of interjecting into the conversation about her Care of Magical Creatures lesson being far more educational than some lesson on how to hurt people, she kept her mouth shut. The girl didn't want to say something offensive since she clearly disliked even the thought of such a class being taught at their school.

OOC: Just a note, this thread takes place near the end of winter break.
Jessica slowly lifted her head upon hearing a boy from her class speak to her. Alexander. She knew him fairly well. The two of them were a lot alike. Neither one was very motivated. Neither one really cared to impress people. He seemed like a guy she could get along with fairly well. However, there was one significant difference between the two of them. Jessica was a straight A student and did everything that she could to master course material. However, she did not master the course material for the grade, but rather because she wanted to learn everything that this world of magic had to offer to her.
Jessica faced Alexander, nodding at his comment. She certainly agreed with him, and she was sure that he already knew her point of view on the subject... even though she had never openly stated so before.
"Yeah. I thought so too. I had never considered this subject of study before, but I'm certainly glad that it was integrated into the curriculum," Jessica added.

Jessica was a girl who was definitely more studious than he was, which he didn’t think was a bad thing in his mind. Of course, his mother would probably try to get her to force Alex into being more studious as well as social, which might be annoying if it worked. He mentally slapped himself in the head for thinking in those terms, and it was lucky that the girl couldn’t see into his thoughts or else she might be a little freaked out.
“I have to agree with you on that one. Of course, I find Transfiguration to be more interesting than the Dark Arts,” Alex stated. His reason for taking an interest in that subject was because the idea of it was encoded into his DNA, but he really did have an interest in studying the different aspects of Transfiguration. “But it is nice to understand the more shady aspects of spell casting. Don’t you agree?” Naturally, Alex didn’t assume that she agreed with him, but it seemed likely to him that she would.
Alex looked around the room while he waited for an answer, and another question popped into his head that he wasn’t sure on the answer. “Why do you think that they decided to include it in the curriculum after so many years without it?”
