At least, on the outside. It hasn't ever been a question which of the Fifth Year Slytherin students would take the title of male Prefect; Adrian has always been a strong display of virtue, rules and skill. He is professional with teachers and doesn't have a lose mouth, like so many uneducated fools from the rubbish collection known as Gryffindor. His demeanor his calm and collected. He is a person that prepares for tests and does his homework accordingly. He doesn't do it because he has to do it in order to understand his spells. He does it for his own reputation with the teachers. Only those who abide the law, can come close enough to the law, in order to break the law and make new law. His cold attidude will get him into conflicts at times, with those who don't deal well with being ignored, but he knows how to handle them. Though he is proud, it isn't false pride. There's nothing to be won with going against a group of students in a superior position, or with a teacher close. Additionally, he is a Prefect. But in a correlated sense, he is intelligent enough to cut his losses. Remaining with awhite vest is especially important in Hogwarts. He adresses teachers formally and with respect. Below the cloak that surrounds Adrian like the walls of a fortress, there lies his own ambition, and the fact that he is, as his father considers, the true heir to the Gaunt line. The true heir of Salazar Slytherin. During his youth, Adrian was different. His eyes weren't cold then, his face wasn't made unsmiling. Joy had been in his features. Until his father used a Cruciatus Curse to get the simple point across, of who decides in the House Gaunt. For such a simple matter as wanting to play instead of studying. After the incident, Adrian withdrew and assumed a mask of cold nature. Part naturally, partially by his own mind. If he wants revenge from his father, he hides it will. Working for his father on the outside, Adrian despises him inwardly. But he will never yield. He will have his time. If the 'unreported accident' has told Adrian one thing, it's the reality of the world. His pain has made him stubborn and hard. And realistic. Drawing a wand on his father is pointless. At the current point of time. But time and skill come, Marvolo Gaunt will feel pain. He will have to answer for his crimes, and with all passivity of Adrian's outward appearance crumbling, the true energy within the young man will be revealed. Not so much by being the animal itself, but rather, by not being the animal that would be expected of a Gaunt. His familiy is prestigous and regarded, even among the already regarded Pure Bloods. Not always for their riches, but for their... ways with power and magic. It isn't being encouraged of a Gaunt to become a major player in the Slytherin house. Or in the Wizarding World. It is expected. Though his older brother is the 'heir' by line of birth, Marvolo considers Adrian to be more able, and more capable to obey and embrace things coming from the Dark Side of magic. Adrian wasn't always as cold and distanced as he is. During his childhood, he had an unusual amount of passion and love for the simple things in life. He would defend his brothers and sisters before their father, even if they had wronged him. He would argue everything, and make it a big deal every time. In other words, he didn't obey his father, as much as Marvolo would have liked it. As much as Marvolo had expected it. One night, Adrian was being taught the laws of power in the Wizard World. He was tortured into compliance with the Cruciatus Curse. An event, that had never been reported. Nor, have his cries have left the basement chambers of his father's house. This major occurance changed Adrian greatly. With his son 'set straight', Marovolo sent Adrian to Hogwarts. It didn't take the boy getting used to the castle. During studies as child, he'd been prepared for the time at the school. From the first couple of days on, he embraced the school. For him, it is a place, that he will learn and earn power in. And power is given to those who follow the rules and don't act against the superiority. Only a couple of times has Adrian ever crossed lines with the rules of Hogwarts. And every time, he knew how to keep it hidden, what he'd been doing. Never once, has he been in detention. All teachers regard him as a talented student with a wake mind, if not lively, he expresses himself through the excelence of his magic.
