He was born as the heir to the Gaunt family; upon his parents' death, he inherited all of their possessions. The extent of his natural affinity for magic is so strongly tied with his emotions that even before he was ten years old, he had performed a wandless and incantation-less Cruciatus Curse upon his parents for simply refusing to give him candy before dinner. Needless to say, after this event his parents were frightened of their own son. However, his use of this curse on his parents went unpunished by the Ministry of Magic considering that he was underage and had no control over it. Marvolo Gaunt was placed in Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry at the age of eleven like nearly all other children. He was placed within the Slytherin House as would be expected of any Slytherin Heir. He fit in well within the house. He had no difficulty making friends, and it seemed that everyone wished to become a part of his group due to the prestige of being affiliated with a Gaunt. Marvolo Gaunt did particularly well in school, excelling in every one of his core classes and going well beyond exceeding expectations in Defense Against the Dark Arts and Charms. However, his true interest always laid in the Dark Arts themselves. Soon after graduating, Marvolo began to help his parents at the Gaunt Family's museum. However, that wasn't his fancy. He aspired something much more from his life, though he had never openly admit to anyone what this something was. He had never seemed to make a move to do anything outside of his parents expectations. At the age of 19, he was even wed to his first cousin, Carrie Gaunt, by his parents wishes. However this didn't bother him at all; he believed that the tradition of keeping the Gaunt bloodline pure and maintaining the ability to speak parseltongue was significant. Some years later, Marvolo's parents were found dead and in the process of being digested by anaconda's; their pets. This unfortunate mishap was said to have been caused by an argument made between themselves and the snakes. Their ability to speak parselmouth was their undoing. Following his parents' death, Marvolo continued running the museum and even began a family of his own. The Gaunts weren't known to do anything outside of their home and appeared very secretive to the outside world. Even running the museum was done through staff workers. Marvolo rarely set foot inside of it. He was seen slightly more after his children began to enroll in Hogwarts. He attended Quidditch matches and took them to the King's Cross Station at the beginning of every school year. However, this was the extent of his being seen in public. This rose the rumor that his skin was so incredibly pallid due to having never gone outdoors.
